The Real World, Friday, May 7, 2010

Reading: I Corinthians 1:18-21, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” 20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

I was talking to a dad the other day and he was informing me that his son and daughter, who are now teenagers, are not doing well spiritually. He continued on to share his opinion, since a lot of his son’s “Christian school” friends have some very serious problem; drugs, trouble with the law, etc. His opinion was that the kids were so sheltered from the “real world” that’s why they are now having such problems. Now, granted, I grew up in a Christian home, attended a Christian school, and went on to a Christian college and I had some of those same thoughts when I was younger. But, I’ve grown to realize that those thoughts were merely temptations to be in and part of the world. Why in the world would we ever define what the world has as the “real world”??? That is one of the devil’s greatest lies, that the pursuit of all things temporary is what is real and true. Men, we must show our family, our friends, our acquaintances and all the world… what the “real” world really looks like. That “real world” is described in detain and is contained in the Word of God. That’s why knowledge of the Bible is true wisdom and living what it teaches is truly living.

How can you demonstrate what the Real World should truly look like?

How can you share the message of the cross, today, without fear of what someone else thinks because the world that they perceive is not “real”?
