His Name, Friday, June 25, 2010

Reading: Isaiah 42:8, "I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.

Have you ever heard of the names of these men: Sanakhte, Reneb, Sahure, Otho, Nerva, Hadrian, Cassander, Attalos, Yongle, or Wanli? Each of these men listed were a ruler of an empire in the past. Rulers of empires!... and you most likely have never even heard of them. I don’t think there is a single man reading this devotional who has been or ever will be a ruler of an empire and I am sure that in one hundred years our names will not be remembered either. If a ruler of an empire’s name is not remembered, how is it possible that our names would be remembered? This is not to make you feel worthless and pointless, rather to allow each of us to realize the name that lasts, that will always live on. I love how pointed God is, “I am the LORD; that is my name!” I almost picture God saying right after that… “And don’t you forget it!!!”

Now for our role… if you truly are a Christian, you wear the name of God on your life; you are the adopted son of God.

How much glory do you bring to His name?

How much glory do you seek for yourself for the things that “you” have accomplished or that “you deserve”? (“you” is in quotes because are you able to accomplish anything in and of yourself?)

What can you do today to bring and give glory to the Lord and His name?

REVIEW

What were you able to do today to bring and give glory to the Lord and His name?

How did this impact your perception of the glory that “you deserve” and the glory that God deserves?
