Reading: Deuteronomy 5:32-33, 32 So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33 Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.”
I’ll never forget the first and only time that I was in New York City by myself. I was on a recruitment trip for the college that I was working for. I had the genius idea to take a drive to see where it would take me. I was so enamored with the sights and the business of traffic that I wasn’t really paying attention to where I was going; not that it even made a difference because I didn’t even know what to look for. Before I knew what happened, I found myself driving down the streets of Manhattan. I immediately found out why everyone walks down there instead of driving. Driving, while trying not to hit a taxi or the random “jaywalker”, was pretty intense. But, that wasn’t the worst part for me. It was the fact that, by the time I got back to where I wanted to go, I spent $24 in tolls in just a short distance from crossing all the bridges. All from making a wrong turn!
God has commanded us to not turn aside to the right hand or to the left; to constantly be focused on Him, to constantly be pursuing Him. Unfortunately, when we aren’t paying attention or we look around and become enamored with those things around us, we end up making a round turn and we get off the highway that God laid out for us to travel on. And, men… it will cost you big every time. By the time you get back to where you wanted to be, you look back in disgust and you have to ask yourself, was it worth it?
Men, are your eyes constantly fixed on God and how His Word is directing your life?
What are some things that have caught your attention that’s pulled your focus away?
What will you do today to make sure that your focus is not deterred from God and what He has for you?
