Reading: Matthew 14:28-29, 28"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." 29"Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
I love this story! Peter didn’t ask anybody permission, remember there were eleven other disciples in the boat. Frightened, scared and timid… not Peter, he was willing to hurl himself into the unknown, and because of it, he walked on water!
Life is not a problem to be solved. It is an adventure to be lived. God has rigged the world in such a way that it only works when we embrace it. Risk is the theme. A man just won’t be happy until he’s got adventure in his work, in his love and in his spiritual life. God is constant but he is unpredictable. There are no formulas for the man who follow this. God is a person not a doctrine. In my favorite Indiana Jones movie, Jones said, “Get back to Cairo. Get us some transport to England… boat, plane, anything. Meet me at Omars. Be ready for me. I’m going after that truck!” “How?”, Sallah asked. To which Jones responded, “I don’t know… I’m making this up as I go.”
When it comes to living and loving for God, what’s required is a willingness to jump in with both feet and be creative as you go. Jesus is our companion. No one is better to have on the adventure than Christ.
Are you willing to be adventurous for God?
Do you trust Jesus to get out of the boat and walk on the water, really?
What will you do today to live and love for Christ even if it is risky, today?
REVIEW
What were you able to do today that was taking a risk and living the adventure with Christ?
How did this impact your view of your day and what God had for you to accomplish today?
