Watch Out!, Monday, October 4, 2010

Reading: James 1:12-15, 12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

A missionary was intrigued to learn how natives would capture monkeys. The natives would take a coconut and, after drilling a whole to a precise size, they would fill it with fruits and nuts. The coconut would then be tied to a tree. The curious monkey would find the coconut and stick his hands inside; but, with a handful of treats, he could not pull his hand back out through the hole. Even as the monkey could hear and see his capture approaching, he would NOT let go of his new found prize, until after he was captured. The “treats” and temptations that are holding you captive, are of your own making. You can have victory today! Christ has already defeated it! Are you ready to LET GO? Are you ready to let go to draw your sword to fight this battle today? It’s only ONE day! You can conquer your temptations and sins today with God’s help!
