I Thirst!, Tuesday, November 9, 2010

Reading: Matthew 5:6, 6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

It’s amazing how commercials can have such an impact on us. They must be effective for companies to pay millions of dollars for a brief spot on Super Bowl Sunday. It is intriguing the way Gatorade, specifically, portrays its product. Play through some of the commercials in your head; athlete running, struggling, straining to excel while sweat pours off of their face. Now, can you imagine Gatorade running a commercial with some people sitting around a pool on a nice, cool, breezy day? Why? The product is for quenching your thirst, not for a cocktail around the pool. They want to portray situations that you may experience that produce the greatest thirst. It’s interesting that the world and the devil do the same to us. We are living in a dry and thirsty land, impoverished from the abundance of God’s holiness; yet, the world and the devil want to play their commercial as if you are poolside on a nice cool day with drink in hand. You are comfortable… you are okay. Why would you need the water of God’s Word? Hungering and thirsting is not based upon your situation… it is based upon your perception. For example, at the end of some sporting events, an announcer may say of the winning team, “Boy, it was sure obvious that they were more hungry/thirsty for this win.” Are you hungry or thirsty for God and His Word? No matter how many times that you have read it. No matter how many church services that we’ve been to, we should still be hungering and thirsting after His Word, as if we could never get enough of it.

Where are you at today? Do you feel hungry or thirsty for God’s Word?

If not, what can you do to truly hunger and thirst for it?

How can you maintain this hunger and thirst throughout the day?

REVIEW

Were you able to maintain a hunger and thirst for God and His Word today?

If yes, how? If no, why do you think that happened?
