Reading: Genesis 3:6, 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Matthew 6:22-23, 22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Imagine you wake up in the morning and find yourself all alone in your house. The sun is beating in your windows. You don’t normally do this but for some reason you feel like you want to wear a pair of sunglasses to darken the light. You put them on and sit down to watch some TV. Some time passes and you want to go check your email and check out what’s new online. After a while, you look at the time and realize you have to leave for a pool party. You stop by the store on the way to pick up some food for the event. You drive over to the party, park and walk through the gate at your friend’s house. You greet everyone and start enjoying the party. After quite a bit of time has past, you start to notice that people are steadily going inside the house and the amount of people around the pool is dwindling. So, you decide to go inside to check out what’s going on. As soon as you walk in, you notice that all of them are gathered in the living room watching something. Some of them on the outskirts look up and see you. Their faces are immediately covered in looks of astonishment and disbelief. You make your way into the group to see what they are looking at. Then you see it… they are all watching the TV. But, to you it looks like a poorly done home movie. Then it hits you, what’s playing on the TV is everything you’re looking at. You feel the sensation of overwhelming guilt as you realize that everything that you looked at that day was on this TV. When you thought no one was around and your eyes were hidden behind sunglasses, it was actually broadcast for everyone to see.
If this were you, would you be embarrassed by what they would have seen?
What will you do today to protect your eyes as if the whole world was watching, because God is?
