Who Are You?
Reading: Genesis 1:26, Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
Who are you? It’s a basic question that we tend to take for granted. If you were asked to tell who you are a part from your work or occupation would you be able to do so?
Sometimes our identity is all wrapped up in what we produce but God has a different perspective. The Psalmist said, “When I consider your heavens, the works of your fingers, the moon and stars, which you set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned Him with glory and honor. You made Him ruler over the works of Your hands; you put everything under His fee”, Psalm 8:3-6.
That’s who you are. And, why is man so worthy? The answer is found in Genesis 1:26-27. Read these verses out loud. We have this glory and majesty because of the way God created us as men. He gave us life, meaning, purpose and His presence to carry us through this life as a man.
Understand yourself through God’s eyes. You bear His image; and, if you’re married, so does your wife. And, if you have children, they bear His image as well. Just realizing that should impact how we think about another person. It should change our behavior.
Take some good time without any distractions and really ask yourself, “Who are you?” (try even looking in the mirror and asking yourself)
How can you “bear His image” throughout your day today?
