The Power of Accountability, Monday, June 21, 2010

Reading: Ecclesiastes 4:12, Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

For some of us, and it is a sobering thought, one day we’ll come face-to-face with our Heavenly Father. We will be called to give an account for our actions on earth. Remember God already knows everything about us, so, it certainly won’t be surprising to Him. But, the full scope of our choices might be surprising to us.

We were never meant to hold this weight alone. Today, do whatever you can to ensure that your thoughts and your heart are pleasing to God.

We are all vulnerable to pride and power. That’s why being a spiritual Lone Ranger is so dangerous. We must depend on trusted brothers and sisters who love us enough to tell us the truth. God never intended anyone to sail their own boat without assistance through the uncharted waters of life or ministry. All of us need help.

Ronald Reagan once said, “The greater the task, the greater the need. No man is an island. We need each other.”

In what ways have you been attempting to bear your burden alone?

How can you share that burden with others?

Who can you contact today to encourage and help bear their burden?

Be sure to let them know that they are not alone and that, if you go through this together, they will not be overpowered.

Were you able to bear someone else’s burden today and encourage them and, if so, how?
