Teach the Children

Reading:Deuteronomy 11:18-20, “18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,”

My, how far we’ve come. If we were to write a few verses that represent the reality today, unfortunately of even Christian homes, it would sound a little bit like this:
“Fix the weekend scores on your minds. However your sports team performed, fix it upon your heart. Tie your team’s logo on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Make sure your children know who your favorite team is. Talk about sports when you sit at home and when you’re driving with your friends or family, when you lie down and when you get up, be passionate about sports and your teams. Make sure that everyone knows, if they know you or your family, that you are a sports fan.”
Or, you can fill in the blanks. What is reality?…
” Fix these in your hearts and minds; tie as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach to your children, talking about when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, and when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,”

Men, what are we teaching the children? It is our responsibility! We spend so much time giving our children education to prepare them for life and do so little in our homes to prepare them for eternal life! Men, will you rise up with me to reclaim our homes for the cause of Christ?

How will you teach your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews today?

  1. I get no bigger joy as a grandparent tnan to hear my grandchildren pray over a meal. Their little prayers are so simple and to the point. Recently I opened my eyes while praying and made eye contact with my granddaughter while she was leading the prayer and she said loudly"boppa had his eyes open while we're praying". Train children in the way they should go, and they will not depart from it.
