Worship Our Father
Reading:Malachi 1:6-8, 6 "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?" says the LORD Almighty. "It is you, O priests, who show contempt for my name. "But you ask, 'How have we shown contempt for your name?' 7 "You place defiled food on my altar. "But you ask, 'How have we defiled you?' "By saying that the LORD's table is contemptible. 8 When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?" says the LORD Almighty.
If I were to tell you that you do not honor God as your Father, and you do not respect God as your master, and you show contempt for God’s name, what would you say? I would imagine the same response that I would say and the same way the people responded in this passage, “How have we” done those things? Notice what God said next to the people… you have not offered me your best! God sure knows how to drive a point home, doesn’t He? “When you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals… try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you?” If we are asked to do something for our boss, or the board of directors, or a celebrity, or a senator, or anyone else that might give you special recognition, would you offer them your best? Would you offer them better than you would offer, when asked to do something for God? God went on to say, in verse 10, “Oh that there were one among you who would shut the gates, that you might not uselessly kindle fire on My altar!” He was saying, you are not even offering me a sacrifice, you’re just kindling a fire. I don’t even recognize it as a sacrifice, if it’s not your best! When you go to church are you offering your best? When you sing are you offering your best from your heart? Whatever you are doing “for God” are you truly offering your absolute best?
What will you be offering to God today?
How can you make sure that you are giving Him your best today?
