The Temple

Reading:I Corinthians 6:19-20, 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

What would you do or how would you feel if you came to the church early and no one was there yet. The parking lot was empty. But, when you walked into the lobby you heard some noises, mixed with laughter coming from the auditorium. Curious, you quickly opened up one of the doors to the auditorium. As soon as you did, people dressed in black with ski masks scattered and began running for the exit doors. To your horror you see what they were doing, as the doors slam behind them. They had taken multiple colors of spray paint and painted graffiti all over the walls, the stage, the chairs, the podium and even the alter and the baptistery. I have a feeling many of us would feel anger, possibly even rage, especially when you realize that the graffiti is all sorts of vulgar symbols, swear words and perverted images.

How would you react and why?

Why is it that we tend to react much more strongly to something that “dirties” or perverts a simple building, which does not contain in and of itself the essence of God; but, allow many different things into the “temple of the Holy Spirit”, which is your body, that can defile, dirty, pervert and tarnish. Do we really grasp that our body is the “temple of the Holy Spirit”?

What do you need to do today to clean y?our “temple of the Holy Spirit”?

What do you need to do today to accommodate the Holy Spirit living within you?

In addition, you may want to read the Old Testament documentation of the temple of God and the reverence and holiness of His dwelling.
