Commitment

Reading:Acts 4:32-35, 32All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. 33With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. 34There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.

When it comes to commitment, I’m reminded of the story of the royal chicken and the royal pig. One day the king had a birthday and the royal chicken and the royal pig woke up and began trying to decide what they could do for the king for his birthday. Finally, the chicken said he had a brilliant plan. He said, “How about we give the king a royal breakfast? He can give him eggs and bacon for breakfast.” The pig thought for a second and said, “Wait a second! For you, this gift might be a small sacrifice but for me, it’s total commitment!”

Consider what the people of the early church were doing for one another. Can you imagine coming home from work one day and walking in the door and announcing to your family that you were all going to sell everything that you own and give it to the church to distribute back evenly amongst the people in the church? Can you imagine the reaction? I have a feeling some type of counseling would be suggested. But, these people in the early church did exactly that! Can you imagine the level of commitment they had for God and for each other?

What are you committed to (not what should you be committed to, what are you committed to)?

What will you do today to give and demonstrate your commitment to God and His people?

REVIEW

How did you demonstrate your commitment to God and His people?

How did this impact what your committed to and how you demonstrate it?
